Kinja'd!!!

Started out just wanting to stop a transmission leak and by the time I was done I had a new battery, a functioning speedometer, a new trans filter and gasket, and a half gallon more of oil in the engine.

Kinja'd!!!

Not sure what any of it does, but the inside of my 700r4 transmission looks pretty good for coming out of a ‘91 Caprice Wagon with 160,000 miles. The only problem now is there may be a little slipping, but that could just be TV cable adjustments.

1000 cranking amps! Got it as a free replacement for the 725 cranking amp battery that shat itself earlier this year.

Finally, the engine was missing a half gallon of oil. I had no idea it was burning so much. Not entirely sure why it is going through this much oil - about a quart every 200 miles. Any ideas? I’m hoping it isn’t the rings or anything because I have promised myself the next time the engine comes out, an LS and a 6-speed manual are going in (likely from a 4th gen Z28 Camaro or something). Anyways, right now I can live with adding a quart every now and then. I don’t drive the car enough to really care.

I haven't seen anything about your Tbird in a long time, or have I just been oblivious?

You say that like it’s a bad thing.

My wallet would not like me buying a decent 4,000 Camaro. And my brain would hurt me for pulling the engine and trans out of a perfectly good running car (the Camaro). I don’t know where I could buy a wrecked one other than randomly off CL.

Just been busy at college. This is my fall break so I figured I’d get some stuff done.

I know exactly what you mean. Almost all of my upgrades are timed as repairs. (Leaking radiator? Upgrade time!)

It’s hard to justify replacing parts that are still good.

Yeah, I do the same. Oh fan clutch needs replaced? Let’s upgrade to electric fans.

It just had a valve job, right? I hate to say it, but it very well could be the rings...

How many miles on the bottom end?

Yeah. Full head rebuild. Bottom end either has 60,000 miles or 160,000 miles.

Time for a compression check.
